Anthony L.

Anthony is a 7-year old happy boy who loves Legos, Disney, and wants to travel the world! As an infant he struggled with skin issues, severe itching,  and allergies similar to his older sister. At 2-years old he had breathing difficulties and was diagnosed with severe asthma. As a result, the past several years he has challenges recovering from illnesses especially respiratory that could not be fully explained.

Through countless blood draws and genetic testing it was confirmed that Anthony has a genetic abnormality that his sister has, PGM-3. The difficulty his body has to fight off illnesses and infections, in addition to his other symptoms as an infant, is due to the cause of this underlying genetic disease. The disease negatively impacts his bone marrow to underproduce the immune fighting cells he needs to fight off common illness. He is immunocompromised and requires medication daily to live a normal life and attend school.

Due to the severity and progressiveness of the disease, Anthony has a very involved medical team. He is also part of a research study at the National Institute of Health.
