Karm D.

Karm Dunmore’s story began before most people ever get a chance to prepare for life.

He was born at just 24 weeks gestation, weighing only 1 pound and 13 ounces. From the very first moment, Karm had to fight to survive. His early days were spent in the NICU, surrounded by machines, tubes, and monitors that helped keep his tiny body going. For four long months, his life depended on skilled medical care and an incredible amount of strength packed into a very small body.

Those early months shaped the course of Karm’s life. He overcame challenges that many never see, proving early on that he was resilient and determined. When he finally left the hospital, it was only the beginning of a journey that would continue to test and reveal his strength.

As Karm grew, it became clear that his path would look different from most. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and autism. He is nonverbal and G-tube dependent, and he requires ongoing medical care, therapies, and constant support. His days are filled with routines and adaptations that help him navigate a world not designed with him in mind.

Even without words, Karm communicates powerfully. Through his expressions, reactions, and presence, he connects with those around him in ways that don’t need language. He feels deeply and understands more than many people realize. His strength shows not only in the big medical battles, but in the quiet, everyday moments where he continues to show up and push forward.

For many years, Karm remained medically stable, giving his family a sense of relief after everything he had already endured. Then in December, his journey took another unexpected turn when he required surgery. Once again, Karm faced a challenge no child should have to face and once again, he proved just how strong he is. His recovery became another chapter in a life defined by perseverance.

Karm’s story is not defined by diagnoses or limitations. It is defined by survival, resilience, and courage. He is a reminder that strength does not always look loud or dramatic. Sometimes strength is quiet. Sometimes it is simply continuing to heal, to grow, and to face each day with determination.

Support from organizations and foundations like this one plays a vital role in Karm’s journey. That support represents more than assistance — it represents belief, compassion, and a community standing behind a child who has been fighting since his very first breath.

Karm Dunmore is more than his medical history. He is a son. He is a survivor. He is a fighter. He is a warrior and his story is still being written.
